The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the rapid growth of e-commerce are driving the launch of a new logistics expo in West Africa, bringing together businesses, policymakers and industry experts to explore the future of regional trade.

The event will focus on how stronger transport, warehousing, delivery and digital-payment systems can help businesses move goods more efficiently across borders. Organisers say the expo will provide a platform for logistics companies, manufacturers, retailers and technology firms to build partnerships and identify new investment opportunities.

The AfCFTA has created the framework for a larger African market, but weak logistics systems continue to limit its potential. Delays at borders, high transport costs, inadequate storage facilities and complex customs procedures make it difficult for businesses to trade efficiently across the region.

E-commerce is adding urgency to the need for better logistics. As more consumers shop online, businesses require dependable delivery networks capable of moving products quickly and affordably. Reliable warehousing, digital tracking and efficient last-mile delivery will be essential for the sector’s continued growth.

Small and medium-sized enterprises are expected to benefit from the expo. Many smaller businesses struggle to access affordable transport and fulfilment services, limiting their ability to reach customers outside their immediate communities.

Discussions at the event are also expected to cover digital customs systems, regional payment platforms, supply-chain technology and sustainable transport. These tools could reduce delays, improve transparency and help businesses manage cross-border transactions.

The expo comes as West African countries seek to deepen regional value chains and reduce dependence on imported goods. Better logistics could support local manufacturing, agriculture and retail while creating jobs in transport, technology and distribution.

However, experts say exhibitions and partnerships must be matched by practical reforms. Governments will need to improve roads, ports and border systems, while businesses must invest in technology, professional training and reliable customer service.

The new expo reflects the growing link between trade integration and digital commerce. If it produces concrete partnerships and policy solutions, it could help strengthen West Africa’s logistics sector and bring the ambitions of the AfCFTA closer to reality.
