Colombia booked their place in the World Cup round of 16 after a 1-0 win over Ghana in their weekend clash. Jhon Arias scored the only goal of the game early on, and Colombia controlled much of the contest from there.
The South Americans were more composed in possession and looked the more dangerous side throughout the match, while Ghana struggled to create meaningful chances in the final third. Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi kept the scoreline respectable with several important saves, but Colombia remained disciplined and compact to protect their lead.
The result means Colombia continue their strong run in the tournament and advance with confidence into the knockout rounds. For Ghana, the defeat ends their World Cup journey after a tough match in which they were unable to find the attacking spark needed to break down Colombia’s defence.
Colombia will now prepare for a last-16 meeting with Switzerland, while Ghana exit the competition with disappointment after falling short at the knockout stage.
