Dangote Refinery Says It Can Exceed Nigeria’s Daily Fuel Demand

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reaffirmed its capacity to supply fuel volumes significantly above Nigeria’s estimated daily domestic consumption across major petroleum products.
The refinery said it can deliver up to 75 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) daily, compared with an estimated national consumption of about 50 million litres. It also listed a daily supply capacity of 25 million litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) against an estimated demand of 14 million litres, and 20 million litres of aviation fuel, far exceeding the projected domestic requirement of about four million litres per day.
The company said the availability of volumes above prevailing demand levels provides critical supply buffers, improves market stability and reduces reliance on imports, especially during peak demand periods or logistical disruptions.
In a public notice to marketers and stakeholders, the refinery reiterated its readiness to supply petroleum products that meet international quality standards.
“The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery would like to reiterate our capability to supply the underlisted petroleum products of the highest international quality standard to marketers and stakeholders,” the statement said, listing PMS, AGO and aviation fuel among available products.

Industry analysts said production capacity above estimated consumption levels would reduce the need for emergency imports, strengthen inventory cover and improve the resilience of Nigeria’s domestic fuel supply chain.
The refinery also reaffirmed its commitment to regulatory compliance and continued collaboration with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), noting that its supply framework aligns with ongoing efforts to maintain market stability and orderly downstream operations.
It added that it remains engaged with regulators and other industry stakeholders in support of Nigeria’s energy security objectives, as the country deepens its transition from fuel import dependence to domestic refining.
According to the company, it is working with market participants to ensure that the benefits of local refining — including supply reliability, competitive pricing and improved market discipline — are consistently delivered to consumers nationwide.
With domestic refining capacity expanding, stakeholders say Nigeria is increasingly positioned to cut foreign exchange exposure, strengthen supply security and improve downstream efficiency through locally refined petroleum products.
